Excellent software to obtain/manage electricity at lower than utility or broker prices
This is unique software for small to large companies to keep track of their electricity usage on every metered account across multiple buildings in multiple electricity public utility service territories and in multiple states that offer electric choice.
Every business electricity customer In an electric choice state has the right to obtain its usage (consumption) data from its electric public utility company by logging onto the utility’s website and creating a username and password.
The business then authorizes Zentility, which is licensed by the same public utility regulatory body as the business’s electric public utility (and therefore must keep customer information confidential), to use that username and password to gain ongoing access to its usage data for purposes of (1) providing the business with the data and useful enhancements to it; and (2) sharing it (also on a confidential basis) with several government-licensed electricity generators and suppliers who bid for the right to supply the business’s electricity needs.
Zentility charges nothing for use of its software and is paid by negotiating upfront with the business a per kilowatt hour (kWh) fee (typically 60-90% less than energy broker or consultant commissions) and then informing generator-supplier bidders to include that per kWh fee in their bids. Energy brokers typically will not divulge their fees included in the kWh prices they quote, and often deal with only a few generator/suppliers.
After Zentility receives the bidding results, it recommends which bid to accept and provides the bidder’s proposed contract for review. The business is under no obligation to accept the recommendation, the bid, or the contract.
If the bid and contract are accepted, the winning supplier notifies the electric utility of the business’s new electricity supplier, and the winning supplier’s charges are usually included on the utility’s bills (“utility consolidated billing” with the utility and supplier exchanging information and remittances). The new supplier remits Zentility’s per kWh fee to it after the business pays its utility bill.
Zentility then keeps looking for a better deal and notifies the business if it finds one during the supplier’s contract term.
Under electric choice, customers receive the same electrons from the electric utility whether they contract to receive electricity from the utility or a licensed supplier (if from the latter, the supplier either pays the utility for its customer’s consumed usage or has an equivalent amount of electricity deposited into the electric grid for the utility’s use). Under state law, the utility retains responsibility for electric distribution meter reading, billing, customer inquiries, complaints, and repairs, and responding to emergencies. Customers may also call their supplier directly.
Especially because of the government oversight through licensing, businesses may safely try this competitive approach to obtaining electricity and managing often far-flung usage data.
