". . . As The Universe Ends, The Last Human On Earth Continues To Prolong The Oblivion Of Its Race . . ."

ZiGGURAT is the end of a much longer story -- a story which ends with The Last Human On Earth standing atop a stratosphere-high stone pyramid, wielding a laser rifle against an endless wave of relentless alien freaks.

Where did the alien freaks come from? How did our hero get to the top of this pyramid? We have no time to think about such things: there is only time to shoot.

The situation is hopeless: this is the end. Your only goal is to enjoy taking out as many of those alien freaks as you can.

As the aliens jump up and down in their approach to our hero, their eyeballs grow and shrink. As you hold your finger on the screen to steady your aim, your gun’s blast grows and shrinks. Hit larger enemy eyeballs with larger bullets to initiate larger explosions and chain reactions. Shoot as much as you want -- you’ll probably never get enough, and that’s okay, because the enemies will literally never stop coming.

With controls that bring together the best of modern shooting nuances and classic gaming challenge, Action Button Entertainment's ZiGGURAT is a new kind of addiction for iOS.

✔ Innovative “Precision Mode” controls: Precision Mode allows the player to control the game entirely with horizontal sweeps on the bottom edge of the screen, meaning your finger doesn’t ever need to cover the on-screen action.

✔ “Slingshot Mode” controls: For players who prefer slinging and flinging.

✔ Endless . . . with an ending: Watch the world end in the background as you play (though don’t get too distracted).

✔ Authentic retro: With sixteen-bit graphics (parallax scrolling!), eight-bit sounds (chiptunes!), and immortal controls and feel, ZiGGURAT is an homage to the games that got us started wanting to make games.

✔ Leaderboards, achievements, Facebook, and Twitter: Everyone in the world or your workplace can and will know how many alien freaks you killed before you died. And don't you want to be at the top of the "Total Shots Fired" worldwide ZiGGURAT leaderboard?

✔ Deep stat-tracking: ZiGGURAT keeps track of your performance and presents your cumulative multi-session scores in a clean single-screen format for efficient bragging.

✔ Amazing music: If the theme music from ZiGGURAT doesn’t impress you, you are not invited to my birthday party (it will be playing on loop at my birthday party).

Amazing game, broken for iOS 8

Used to work on my phone, but now it starts up in upside-down portrait mode and is impossible to play! Please fix it!

That said, this game is good. Really good. Tetris-level good. Its mechanics are simple (charge up your gun, point it at a throbbing alien-head, shoot said head when it's biggest for screen-clearing explosions), but there's so much strategy inherent to them that you're always discovering new and better ways to play. Much like Tetris, your brain stays in Ziggurat-mode long after you stop playing, so that you find yourself thinking about chairs and tables and the other people on your flight in terms of blowing up throbbing aliens. I bought this game after reading Tim Rogers's article about all the subtle design choices that make a game satisfying (he calls it "sticky friction"), and after playing Ziggurat it's obvious that he knew what he was talking about. You can tell how good it feels to play Ziggurat just by watching videos of it online, and actually playing it yourself feels so good that you retain the tactile sense of playing it long after you stop. A++ best iOS game.

Buy this NOW!

Been trying to get this game for a month after people over at NeoGaf raved so much about it. Couldn't find it at all and found out it was taken down for a few. Now I know what the fuss is all about. This game is meant for the old school gamers, or any gamer that loves to be challenge and enjoy some great music as well. My favorite iOS game so far, next to my Cave shooters.

The controls seem confusing at first with only having the option to slide left or right at the bottom of the screen, but once you get the hang of it(I got it in my second try)you'll be stacking up kills in no time.

The point of the game is not to get hit at all, your character is on top of a mountain, armed with a gun. You can't move the character, but you can aim at all the directions while enemies keep coming in droves. The longer you stay alive, the crazier it gets!

Very addicting gameplay.

Brilliant but broken

An absolute masterpiece of a mobile game. The concept, the gameplay mechanics, the cadence are all spot on. I don't know if this Tim Rogers guy is a complete dufus and just got lucky and expectorated this game out one day, or if he really knows what he's doing and deliberately constructed a fantastic game. Whatever. Who cares. This game is amazing, and I actually think games are a waste of time. Fun, challenging, and just plain cool. Too bad Mr. Tim apparently can't afford to update the game for iOS 9. 'Cause it works not at all now. Boo.
