Zombies - a nicely done retro experience.
Zombies pays homage to a classic tile-based game I first played on my dearly departed Mac Plus called Daleks. The game mechanics are simple: you move one of 6 directions while attempting to avoid the zombies. Your primary attack against them is to try to get them to run into each other, which destroys them (zombies fall apart fairly easily, you know). You also have an arsenal of scrolls that you collect that grant you additional powers such as teleportation and flame attacks. Once you clear a level you move on to a new level with more zombies, and often more scrolls to grab. I think the turn-based game play of the game translates well to the small screen of the iPhone - I'm really enjoying the game. Zombies is also a great choice for the kids - the graphics and sounds are whimsical, not scary, and the turn-based play allows them to take their time. My 7 and 9 year old both enjoy the game.
Poor controls keep this game from being great. Movement is only possible by touching the screen in the desired location relative to your character which frequently leads to imprecise moves which is often lethal since there's no undo option.
Until ability to undo and swipe to move are added, go with Retrobots instead - it's a much better daleks clone.
Great little game, lovely artwork and great sound. Found myself reaching for it several times when I have a few minutes to spare.
