Zone is a menubar time tracker.
Projects: Add projects, use colors.
Reports: Select days, see a graph and a table.
Export: Select projects, time range and get a CSV.
Break timer: Whenever you stop tracking, you can set a break timer that will remind you to get back to work.
What's New in Version 2.0.2
- Fixing a bug where creating new Zone via keyboard shortcut would create it twice and then when you deleted one, both were gone
Annoyingly close to perfect, single yet glaring issue
Please fix this issue: can’t delete (or can’t find how to delete) a new Zone once created. This is really annoying, as superfluous Zones clutter up the interface, making it harder to quickly select another one as I’m trying to task switch. Being able to delete a Zone (or making it more obvious how it can be done) is table-stakes:, it’s not really a feature so much as a missing expected function — imagine a calendar where it’s impossible or hard to find how to delete an event.
Otherwise, this has been really useful as a designer working for an agency, tracking multiple projects and different clients. Not overloaded with features, and makes it much easier to make a habit of time-tracking. If issue above is fixed, I’d be more than willing to shell out a few bucks for a version that can be turned on/off and switch zones from multiple devices.
Very limited usefulness
When I purchased the app, I was under the impression one could start a segment of work and give a brief description to the work being done. Perhaps that would roll up under a general category (e.g. the colors in the screenshots).
Unfortunately the app does not allow you to add any sort of details for each “zone” that is tracked. You can only give a broad title that is used every time you start a zone, but you cannot change it without changing all other zones of the same type. Also, you are only allowed to pick from 8 colors, so if you start adding many categories it can become difficult to visually discern them.
In short, it’s not overly useful unless all you care about is an absolutely basic time time tracker.
Can be slightly buggy, but for those who thought this could do more than what it does, you should probably read the app’s description and its accompanying screenshots before you buy. You’d then find this app wasn’t designed for you.
For the rest of us, this app does exactly what you need it to do and nothing more, which is perfect. Specify tasks, start timers, and generate basic reports. Right now the only thing driving me crazy is the slightly glitchy behavior of displaying the running timer in the menu bar.
