Best known as an actor, writer, and producer, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has forged a parallel career as a pop and jazz singer inspired by the Great American Songbook. ∙ Fueled by the success of the Family Guy TV show, he cocreated 2005’s Family Guy: Live In Vegas, a Broadway-inspired album featuring characters from the series. ∙ MacFarlane’s first solo LP, Music Is Better Than Words, arrived in 2011 and earned him the first of his three Grammy nominations for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. ∙ He hosted the 2013 Academy Awards, at which “Everybody Needs a Best Friend”—a track he’d cowritten for the movie Ted—had been nominated for Best Original Song. ∙ The 2014 Holiday for Swing!
