Aldo Romano

About Aldo Romano

Although born in Italy, free jazz drummer Aldo Romano moved to France with his family at a young age. He was already playing guitar and drums professionally in Paris in the '50s when he heard Donald Byrd's group with drummer Arthur Taylor. In the '60s he produced some of his most memorable work with jazz trumpeter Don Cherry. Romano spent much of the '70s immersed in jazz fusion with his own group. Since then, he has dedicated himself to the drums and contemporary jazz. Romano has worked with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Bud Powell, Steve Lacy, and Dexter Gordon. ~ Francesco Martinelli
