Alice Faye

About Alice Faye

Actress and singer Alice Faye symbolized for many the glamorous 20th Century Fox movie-musicals of the 1930s and '40s. Discovered by Rudy Vallee in the Broadway chorus of George White’s Scandals Of 1931, she went on to star with Vallee in the stage revue's movie version. Over the next 11 years she made more than 30 films, mostly ornate musicals such as ROSE OF WASHINGTON SQUARE and TIN PAN ALLEY. Faye retired from movies in 1945, but returned in 1962 for the second re-make of STATE FAIR. Revived, Faye starred in her own television specials and recorded anew. She even returned to Broadway in 1973 in a revival of GOOD NEWS. Faye was active up until her death in 1998, shortly after her 82nd birthday.
