About Anna Meredith

Scottish composer Anna Meredith, born in London in 1978, blazed through prestigious English music degrees and a composing residency with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra before her 2008 BBC Proms commission, froms, was turned on the masses. She became a regular guest on network programming, premiered 2010’s Concerto for Beatboxer & Orchestra, and stormed BBC Proms again in 2012 with her HandsFree piece for body percussion alongside members of the National Youth Orchestra. Then, in 2016, Meredith lept into electronic-music composition with her album Varmints and later remixed Vivaldi with techno and surround visuals in ANNO: Four Seasons by Anna Meredith & Antonio Vivaldi. She carried these waves of glittering synth into the score for Bo Burnham’s film Eighth Grade, and her 2019 electronic album, Fibs, mixed art-pop into a sound that hovers somewhere between experimental rock and a jump to hyperspace.
