The brainchild of L.A. punk journeyman Greg Hetson (Red Kross, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion) and Goldfinger guitarist Charlie Paulson, Black President traffics in the kind of old school, political hardcore made famous by bands like Black Flag and T.S.O.L. during Ronald Reagan’s “Morning in America.” Though Hetson left the band shortly before their debut, the rest of the band re-grouped and soldiered on, playing shows with genre legends Bad Brains, Suicidal Tendencies, and the Germs, all major influences on the band.
