Springing to life from the 2011 independent film The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best, a rock & roll road trip comedy that managed to balance the sweetness of Once, the spirit of The Commitments, and the lunacy of Flight of the Conchords, the Brooklyn Brothers, played by actor/director/musician Ryan O'Nan and actor/musician Michael Weston, proved popular enough off-screen to secure a record deal with Rhino Entertainment, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. The duo, who in the film travel across the country to Los Angeles to participate in a battle of the bands, specialize in quirky, indie folk-pop that pairs acoustic guitar and vocals (O'Nan) with an arsenal of found, mostly children's instruments (Weston), resulting in a sound that falls somewhere between Bon Iver, the Beta Band, and Jens Lekman. The Rhino-released original soundtrack, which featured ten songs from the film, was released in 2012.
