About Carlos Miguel Prieto

Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto has achieved success in North America as well as in his native Mexico. Prieto made his debut with the Mexico City Philharmonic in 1995 and became its music director in 1998. The following year, Prieto made his recording debut, leading the American Composers Orchestra on the album Marc-Antonio Consoli: Odefonia, Afterimages, Pensieri Sospesi. He has also shared the conductorship of the Orchestra of the Americas with Gustavo Dudamel, and the two conductors have both taken an active interest in music education. In 2019, Prieto led the Orchestra of the Americas in the program Copland & Chávez: Pan-American Reflections. In 2022, he collaborated with trumpeter Pacho Flores and the Minería Symphony Orchestra on the album Estirpe. Beginning as an artistic advisor with the North Carolina Symphony in 2021, he began a four-year term as music director in 2023.
