About Chad Lawson

Composer/pianist Chad Lawson's music centers around introspective, repetitive melodies intended to inspire and soothe. Born in 1975 in North Carolina, Lawson initially worked as a studio musician, drawing on his improvisatory style and interest in jazz. This fluidity can be heard in the 2014 album The Chopin Variations, which reimagines famous pieces by the Polish composer, and Bach Interpreted, Lawson's 2016 response to the Bach Chorales. As an advocate for the importance of music to well-being—his EP Stay (2020) was released to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Month in the U.S.—Lawson produces the podcast Calm It Down, which features techniques for breathing, meditation, and talking about mental health. The ongoing series inspired him to record an album to help listeners relax and regroup, 2022’s breathe. Lawson's minimalist structures and pop harmonies can also be heard in compositions for TV shows like The Walking Dead and Lore.
