About Charles Owen

British pianist Charles Owen attended the Yehudi Menuhin School, where his teacher was Seta Tanyel, and studied at the Royal College of Music with Irina Zaritskaya and Imogen Cooper. He was the winner of the silver medal at the Scottish International Piano Competition in 1995, a finalist at the London Philharmonic/Pioneer Young Soloist competition in 1996, and he shared the Parkhouse Award with violinist Katharine Gowers in 1997. Owen has appeared in concert with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the English Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Lodz Filharmonia, the Moscow State Academic Symphony, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Owen performs with such ensembles as the Takács Quartet, the Wihan Quartet, the Sacconi Quartet, the Vertavo Quartet, the Vogler Quartet, and the Elias Quartet, and he has partnered with Sarah Chang, Julian Rachlin, Antje Weithaas, Chloë4 Hanslip, Henning Kraggerud, Augustin Hadelich, Natalie Clein, Jack Liebeck, Renaud Capuçon, Catherine Leonard, Adrian Brendel, Natalie Clein, Guy Johnston, Paul Watkins, Tim Hugh, and Nicholas Daniel. He also performs in a piano duo with Katya Apekisheva. Owen teaches piano at the Guildhall School, and he has recorded for Dorian, Somm, EMI, Avie, and Signum Classics, among other labels. ~ Blair Sanderson
