Chris Barber

About Chris Barber

Chris Barber formed his first jazz band in the late '40s. Aided by remarkably consistent personnel, the band became one of the U.K.'s leading traditional in the late '50s and early '60s. As a trombone player, Barber had a rich sound and flowing solo style, but it is as bandleader and trend spotter that he has made his greatest contribution to the international jazz scene, championing then-unknown major American artists including Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Brownie McGhee, Louis Jordan, and Muddy Waters. ~ Rovi Staff
