Earl Carroll

About Earl Carroll

Wearing the multiple hats of producer, director, and songwriter, Earl Carroll contributed material to Broadway shows such as THE PASSING SHOW OF 1912 and PRETTY MISS SMITH. After serving as a pilot in World War I, Carroll moved into management and production, and by 1922, had built his own Earl Carroll Theatre in New York. He staged a series of ‘girlie’ revues under the title of the Earl Carroll Vanities, featuring songs by E.Y. ‘Yip’ Harburg and Jay Gorney, including "Kinda Cute" and "Crashing The Golden Gate," as well as the Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler classic, "I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues."
