Elizabeth Kenny

About Elizabeth Kenny

In the career of English lutenist and theorbo player Elizabeth Kenny, virtuoso performance, teaching, and research co-exist with unusual comfort and mutual benefit. Kenny studied the guitar and then switched to lute. Kenn, and won a place in Les Arts Florissants in 1992, remaining there until 2007, then joined the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment until 2015. She made numerous recordings with both, and has also accompanied Ian Bostridge and other singers on record. Her solo career has been marked by recordings of little-known repertory and might be placed in the specialist category if they did not astound with sheer virtuosity. She has also recorded with her own group, Theatre of the Ayre. ~ James Manheim
