About Frances Cone

Frances Cone is Nashville-based indie pop project led by singer, songwriter, and pianist Christina Cone and bassist/singer Andrew Doherty. Initially a Cone solo venture that yielded a 2013 full-length, the two musicians joined forces a few years later and developed a thoughtful and cinematic sound that blends lush atmospheric pop and rugged soulful folk which could be heard on 2019's Late Riser. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Cone comes from a musical lineage that includes her father, grandmother, and great-grandfather. Following a move to Brooklyn, New York, she began operating under the Frances Cone name, releasing her debut solo album, Come Back, in 2013. The mix of dreamy indie pop with electronic and soulful folk tones earned her some initial fans, as did her self-titled 2014 EP, which was bolstered by some more widespread national press. Although she'd collaborated with several different members over the first few years, Frances Cone remained in essence a solo project. Following a couple more independent singles, Cone met another like-minded Brooklyn resident, Andrew Doherty, who soon became both her musical and life partner. Recasting Frances Cone as a duo, the two began writing and recording together and eventually moved to Nashville. Their first single together, "Arizona," appeared in 2016, accumulating significant streaming success and building an advance buzz for their next full-length. A second single, the lush "Leave Without You," appeared in 2017 with Frances Cone's sophomore full-length Late Riser finally appearing in early 2019. ~ Timothy Monger
