About Hammock

Nashville-based ambient duo Hammock got their start in 2003 when guitarists Andrew Thompson and Marc Byrd were on break from their band Common Children. ∙ They received national exposure when the shimmering “Winter Light”—from their 2005 debut album, Kenotic—was used in network coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics Games. ∙ In 2007, Hammock made their live debut at a Hot Springs, Arkansas, art gallery during an exhibit by Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi and producer Alex Somers. ∙ The band’s Asleep In the Downlights - EP, from 2011, features vocal contributions from The Church’s Steve Kilbey and Tim Powles. ∙ With 2013’s Oblivion Hymns, the duo had a Top 20 hit with a collection of ambient chamber music, complete with a full orchestra and children’s choir. ∙ Hammock scored the critically acclaimed 2017 film Columbus at the invitation of its writer/director, Kogonada.
