About Han Bennink
One of the most inventive jazz musicians of his generation, Netherlands-based drummer Han Bennink is primarily associated with the European free improvisation scene led by titans such as Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, and Peter Brötzmann. Despite primarily working in a free context, he has performed with a variety of acts, including mainstream artists Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon. His most famous session was for Eric Dolphy on his 1964 album, LAST DATE, one of the saxophonist’s final recordings. An intense, energetic percussionist with a strong anarchic streak, Bennink often refuses to confine his playing to the kit, frequently drumming on floors, walls, or just about anything else within reach.
