Hila Plitmann is a virtuoso soprano who specializes in avant-garde and contemporary music, including opera, film scores, and musical theater. Plitmann premiered David Del Tredici's The Spider and the Fly in 1998 with Kurt Masur and the New York Philharmonic, launching her public career and beginning her association with new music performances. Plitmann has appeared with world-class orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and numerous other ensembles. She has premiered works by Del Tredici, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Aaron Jay Kernis, and John Corigliano, often recording them as well. She performs without scores, memorizing each work to internalize the music and perform it with authentic expression. She frequently collaborates with her husband, Eric Whitacre, and they are based in London.
