About Kashief Lindo

b. c.1978, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. The Lindo dynasty has featured heavily in the reggae industry: Earl Lindo played keyboards in the Wailers, the singer Hopeton Lindo has enjoyed many hits, the producer Jack Ruby was born Lawrence Lindo and Kashief’s father is Willie Lindo, who played guitar for the Hi Times Band and formed his own production company. Although Willie produced dancehall hits, including ‘Girlie Girlie’ for Sophia George, he is celebrated for his tender ballads, including UK chart-topping hits for Boris Gardiner in the mid-80s. In 1992, Willie produced his son’s recording debut, which surfaced on the one-rhythm Rougher Yet compilation. Kashief’s earliest success arrived in late 1993 with ‘Hard Times’, performed over the evergreen ‘Satta Massa Gana’ rhythm. In 1996, inspired by the Fugees’ success with their cover version of Roberta Flack’s ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’, Kashief recorded his own version, which was enthusiastically received within the contemporary market. As a youthful performer, he remains unperturbed by the fact that he has yet to produce a commercially successful dancehall hit.
