Iguazúl is the musical moniker of San Francisco-based producer and label owner Loïc Maestracci -- also founder of San Francisco's internationally renowned Music Expo. His exotic, smooth, and soulfully tinged dancefloor sound combines electro and funk with Brazilian and Latin rhythms in a retro-modern style. (With influences ranging from Azymuth and Chic to Earth Wind & Fire and Todd Terje evident in his style.) Iguazúl has been deeply influenced by his travels through world cities whose musical traditions are important parts of their heritage: Rio, Paris, London, New Orleans, and Los Angeles, among them. His musical style blends electric pianos, electronic synths, and drum machines with organic voices and live percussion.
Iguazúl established himself by collaborating on remixes with other producers in Los Angeles. His work includes tracks by Santana, Gilberto Gil, and Jamiroquai. His eight-track debut EP, Electro Funk Samba, was issued in early 2016. ~ Thom Jurek
