About Jaakko Kuusisto

Violinist Jaakko Kuusisto was one of the most visible musicians in his native Finland and beyond, with a career that encompassed conducting and composition as well as violin recordings. He was associated with the BIS, Ondine, and Finlandia labels, making his debut on the former in a recital of Sibelius' youthful works. He recorded concertos of illustrious Finnish contemporary composers. From 1999 to 2012, Kuusisto was the concertmaster of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor, he worked with major Finnish orchestras and with the Minnesota Orchestra, among others. He occasionally arranged or orchestrated the music he conducted. Kuusisto wrote more than 40 works. His chamber works were collected on the 2016 BIS release Glow.
