About Jimbo Mathus

Squirrel Nut Zippers' Jim Mathus pursued projects outside of the group, often under slightly different names. He formed the Knockdown Society and released Play Songs for Rosetta (1997), a collection of bluesman Charley Patton's songs. National Antiseptic (2001) offered tribute to Deep South swamp rock. Mathus followed up with the similarly bluesy and eclectic Stop and Let the Devil Ride (2003). Two years later, Knockdown South (2005) was issued. Mathus returned to Mississippi blues and country with Old Scool Hot Wings (2006), with Jimmy the Kid released later in the year. Confederate Buddha (2011), the EP Blue Light (2012), and White Buffalo (2013) led to Mathus and his Tri-State Coalition's Dark Night of the Soul (2014). ~ Heather Phares
