About Jimmy Wakely

One of Hollywood's great cowboy country stars, actor and singer Jimmy Wakely got his break in 1940 when his outfit, the Jimmy Wakely Trio, was hired by Gene Autry to appear on the Hollywood radio show Melody Ranch. Wakely made his acting debut, with Roy Rogers, in SAGA OF DEATH VALLEY that same year, and went on to appear in dozens of movies. Wakely's trio first hit the country charts in 1944 with the World War II chestnut "I’m Sending You Red Roses," topping the charts with "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)" and "I Love You So Much It Hurts" a few years later. Wakely would remain a popular live act until his death in 1982.
