Jose Angel Velasco Hevia

About Jose Angel Velasco Hevia

From the Celtic region of Asturias in northern Spain, José Angel Hevia became involved in world music in the 1980s while playing the traditional bagpipe. In the early '90s, the talented performer participated in a band that melted Asturian folk music and modern instrumentation. Hevia debuted as a solo artist in 1999 with the release of the top-selling full-length record Tierra de Nadie. In a way to offer a contemporary sound, he started playing his own patented invention, a multi-timbre electronic bagpipe mostly heard on his second album, called The Other Side, recorded along with Praga's symphonic orquestra and Moroccan singer Suhail. ~ Drago Bonacich
