About Logan Strosahl

Combining his penchant for forward-thinking modern jazz with his love of British and European classical music, saxophonist Logan Strosahl has carved a distinctive niche in the post-bop community. A graduate of Boston's New England Conservatory, Strosahl began pulling his disparate influences together early on, and showcased his broad, multi-layered approach on his debut album, 2015's Up We Go. Since then, he has continued to grow, playing in an array of formats from intimate duo settings to larger, more arranged dates with his seven-piece ensemble.

A native of Seattle, Strosahl began playing saxophone at a young age, encouraged by his parents, who introduced him to classical music and jazz. By his teens, he was honing his craft in the highly touted jazz program at Seattle's Roosevelt High School. From there, he enrolled at Boston's prestigious New England Conservatory, where he graduated in 2011. Influenced by a wide array of musicians from jazz icons Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus, and Duke Ellington to classical composers like Henry Purcell and William Byrd as well as 16th and 17th century consort music, he developed a distinctive sound invested as much in composing as improvising. He displayed this stylistically rich sound on his debut album as a leader, 2015's Up We Go. He then followed up with Janus, a probing duo album with longtime collaborator pianist Nick Sanders. In 2017 he released Book I of Arthur, his first album in an ambitious three-part work based on the legend of King Arthur. ~ Matt Collar
