Colorado hard rock quintet Lola Black is fronted by the fierce frontwoman of the same name, born Lola Montez. Along with her husband Chris "Crispy" Dellinger, she formed the band in Aurora in 2008. Comprised of members from other local Denver-area bands, the early incarnation of Lola Black veered toward the punk and hardcore side of the rock spectrum and had a single release, Plastic Dashboard Jesus. After a lineup change, Lola Black returned in 2012 with the punky Dia de Los Borrachos. With a hard-partying spirit, the EP was a raucous blend of the Distillers and Joan Jett. In 2014, they entered a partnership with Jagermeister and hooked up with producer Sid Riggs (Seether, Saliva) for their next release, Til Death Do Us Part. The heavier, more goth-metal feel unveiled a new vocal style for Montez, incorporating bloody screams similar to Brody Dalle. Amassing a large following in their hometown scene and winning a number of local music awards, they continued to grow, opening for In This Moment and Queensrÿche, and joining the lineups for the big-ticket rock festivals throughout the United States in the summer of 2016. That same year, Lola Black -- with members Taylor Steele (guitar), Paige O'Meara (guitar), and Kyle Aravais (drums) -- issued the single "Sorrow and Sin." Produced by Bob Marlette (Rob Zombie, Seether, Alice Cooper), the goth metal track hit as hard as Halestorm, Stitched Up Heart, and Bellusira. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
