About Lorenz Hart

Of all the many gifted lyricists to write for the American musical theater in the 1920s and '30s, Lorenz Hart was perhaps the most poetic. A deeply troubled man, Hart was wrapped with anxiety over both his personal life and the rigors and demands of Broadway, but his work with composer Richard Rodgers stands among the very best in the Great American Songbook. The duo's many Broadway successes include A CONNECTICUT YANKEE, JUMBO, BABES IN ARMS, and PAL JOEY. Rodgers and Hart also worked in Hollywood for a while, but Hart’s battles with the bottle would lead to his and the partnership’s early demise.
