About Luciana Souza

Daughter of the composers Walter Sanot and Tereza Souza, Luciana Souza has built her career on the twin footings of Brazilian music and jazz, reflecting both time spent in her homeland and her second home in New York. Among her jazz performances are contributions to bass player John Patitucci’s SONGS, STORIES & SPIRITUALS (2003), and as a member of Danilo Perez’s Motherland Project group alongside violinist Regina Carter. She has received Grammy Award nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Albums for BRAZILIAN DUOS (2002) and NORTH AND SOUTH (2003). Souza has also performed contemporary classical music, including singing the premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s "La Pasion Segun San Marcos" at Boston’s Symphony Hall in 2002.
