About Madame So

Born in Paris, Solange Moffi was nicknamed Madame So by her parents at a early age due in no small part to her stubborn, inquisitive, and assertive nature. Moffi became enthralled by strong female musical figures such as Patti Smith, Courtney Love, and Liz Phair as she grew up, while the Lemonheads, the Vaselines, and Ben Lee were also great sources of inspiration. Madame So moved to London in 2001 and focused her energy on music journalism but, eventually, her burgeoning desire to make music of her own wasn't to be denied. Moffi began performing solo shows in early 2011, before recording her self-released debut, The Sell-by Date EP, in late 2012. Fleshed out by a full band, songs such as "Camden Scene" and "Sell-by Date" gave Madame So the kind of sound that was the natural progression from her already punk-influenced acoustic performances, catching the ear of blogs and radio, such as Gary Crowley at the BBC. ~ Daniel Clancy
