About Marcus Brown

Marcus Brown recorded one soul single for the Shreveport, LA-based Peermont label (actually a subsidiary of the Murco label) in 1968, "I'm Coming Home"/"Hey Little Girl." According to Murco owner Dee Marais, he didn't think Brown's voice was that good, and only recorded and released the single at Brown's request~the kind of philanthropy if, practiced regularly, will quickly put you out of business. Brown's voice was mediocre but not horrible, and "I'm Coming Home" was a passable bluesy soul ballad, reissued on the Kent compilation Shreveport Southern Soul: The Murco Story. ~ Richie Unterberger
