About Marquis Hill

Marquis Hill is an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader from Chicago. His musical signature employs post-bop and jazz-funk in synthesizing other genres and influences including hip-hop, R&B, Chicago house, and neo-soul. His self-released debut album, New Gospel, appeared in 2011 and was followed by The Poet in 2013. To celebrate winning the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Trumpet Competition in 2014, he issued the Modern Flows EP, Vol. 1. 2016's The Way We Play was a one-off for Concord -- his prize for winning the competition. Modern Flows, Vol. 2 appeared in November 2018, followed by The Love Tape and The Love Tapes with Voices in October 2019. In November 2020, he released the astrologically themed Soul Sign. He returned to his debut for inspiration for 2022's live New Gospel Revisited, before delivering more elevated electronic and R&B vibes with 2023's Rituals + Routines.
