About Matt Holubowski
A singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Quebec, Canada, Matt Holubowski's often intricate acoustic guitar playing accompanies intimate stories and introspection. His second album, 2016's Solitudes, expanded upon the sound of his earlier material, offering mostly full-band arrangements.
Hailing from Hudson in suburban Montreal, Holubowski writes the majority of his songs in English but also writes and performs in French. A set of intimate singer/songwriter fare made with limited contributions from guests (including its producer/mixer, Connor Seidel), Holubowski's debut, Ogen, Old Man, arrived via Audiogram Records in 2014. Though only one of its songs was in French, he soon won a devoted French-Canadian fan base with his fourth-place finish on TV's La Voix, a popular Québecois version of The Voice. Referencing the Hugh MacLennan novel Two Solitudes, about the divisions between French- and English-speaking Canada, his more fully arranged second album, Solitudes, followed on the same label in 2016. Holubowski spent a year and a half on the road in support of its release, including 100 shows in Quebec, where he continued to draw larger crowds than elsewhere in Canada. He released the companion EP Epilogue in late 2017 before opening a U.K. tour for Ben Folds in May 2018. He followed that with several festival appearances back in Canada. ~ Marcy Donelson
