About Neil Hamburger

While speculations that Neil Hamburger is a character invented and played by another comic remain unconfirmed, Hamburger’s routine, much like that of Andy Kaufman’s Tony Clifton, is a postmodern form of anti-humor that seems as if it might be constructed as a fiction. Hamburger’s standup consists of bad timing, terrible delivery, and unfunny jokes. Known for his relentless touring schedule, Hamburger was approached by longtime showbiz manager Art Huckman, who elevated Hamburger’s status in the industry. After releasing a couple of EPs, Hamburger was signed to the Drag City label and released his debut full-length, AMERICA’S FUNNYMAN, in 1996. His other albums include 1998’s RAW HAMBURGER and 2000’s INSIDE NEIL HAMBURGER, and he continues to tour nonstop. His association with the Drag City label, and musical artists like Bonnie “Prince” Billy, has given Hamburger a unique credibility within hipster circles.
