The {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, or simply {oh!}, is one of Poland's most significant and visible historically oriented ensembles. Through its association with the Polish National Radio Orchestra, it has also become one of the most visible. The {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna was founded in 2012 in Katowice, Poland, by a group of early music enthusiasts led by concertmaster Martyna Pastuszka and manager Artur Malke. The group has fused goals that might seem mutually contradictory: it has often performed unfamiliar German and Eastern European repertory, including works recently rediscovered in libraries of the region, but its members also, in their own words, "never forget about what is most important: making their music reach their audience as fully as possible." The {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, whose name means "Historical Orchestra," comprises 18 members. The group was supported from the beginning by the city of Katowice, and it gained major visibility when it forged an ongoing association with the Polish National Radio Orchestra; {oh!} has been featured regularly on that orchestra's early music series, attracting western European guest soloists such as fortepianist Andreas Staier, harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen, and violinist Julien Chauvin. The {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna has presented, in collaboration with Czech artists, the modern premieres of two late Baroque operas, Domenico Sarri's Didone Abbandonata and Johann Adolf Hasse's Arminio. These productions were taken on tour in both Poland and the Czech Republic. The {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna made its debut in 2015 on the Dux label with the album Schreyfogel/Schaffrath/Visconti, featuring violin and harpsichord concertos discovered in a Dresden library. For Dux, the group also recorded Music of the Warsaw Castle: Music of French Masters. The group moved to Muso in 2019 for Concerto Grosso: Émigré to British Isles, and in 2020, the orchestra was heard on another recently rediscovered work, Leonardo Vinci's opera Gismondo: Rè di Polonia, on Parnassus Arts. ~ James Manheim
