About Proyecto X

Proyecto X is an alternative norteño quintet from Salinas, California, formed by five friends in 2012 (Carlos Zamora, bajo sexto, first voice; Johnny Espino, drums; Eduardo Batres, tuba; Eliodoro Vallecillo, accordion and vocals; Fabian Rodriguez, second voice and "animation"). They also list their management representative Raul Avalos as a non-performing member. The group scored a record deal with Fonovisa less than a year after they started based on the strength of their You Tube videos, well-attended live shows, social media saturation, and pure business savvy. Their first two singles, "Mi Angelita Mi Diablita" and "La Beastia," off 2013 debut album Con Pawer, both landed in the Top 30 on the Mexican Regional Songs chart. Likewise, "5 Letras" from 2014's Con Más Pawer, also placed there. (The album landed in the Top 40), while second single "Eres Tu" landed at number three. The track placed in the Top 25 on the Hot Latin Songs chart as well, and in the Top Ten on Latin Airplay. The band spent the remainder of the year and most of 2015 on the road. They returned to the recording studio in early 2016. In the fall they issued the pre-release single and title track for the album Y al Final Quede Sin. It was followed by second single "Qué Buen Fiestón." While the album's singles didn't do much, the videos did, and landed high on the streaming charts. When the album was released in November, it roared out of the gate to land at number eight on Hot Latin Albums and number three on Regional Mexican albums. ~ Thom Jurek
