About Rosco Gordon

A self-taught boogie-woogie pianist, Rosco Gordon was part of the Beale Streeters group in the late-1940s, alongside Johnny Ace, B.B. King, and, for a time, Bobby Bland. He was still a teenager when he recorded "Booted" at Sam Phillips’ Memphis studio in January 1951. Gordon’s best-known song, "Just A Little Bit," reached #2 on the R&B charts in 1960, but follow-up recordings failed to make the same impact. A brief visit to England in 1982 brought an onstage reunion with B.B. King at London’s 100 Club, by which time he was financing recordings from his cleaning business. MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE finally appeared in 2000.
