About Sad Day for Puppets

A sugar-spun mix of shoegaze and indie pop, Blackebourg, Sweden's Sad Day for Puppets features guitarists Martin Kallholm and Marcus Sandgren, bassist Alex Svenson, drummer Micael Back and vocalist Anna Eklund. Formed in late 2006 by Kallholm, the band released their first single "Hush" early in 2008, while their debut EP, Just Like a Ghost, appeared in spring 2008 on Radio LXMBRG's Haha Fonogram label. Immediately after the EP's release, Sad Day for Puppets started work on their first album, Unknown Colours, which was released that fall. After touring in Japan and in the U.K. with Television Personalities, the U.K. imprint Sonic Cathedral signed Sad Day for Puppets and issued the Marble Gods/Big Waves single, which became a BBC 6 Music Single of the Week, in March 2009. The download-only single "Cherry Blossom" later that spring heralded the U.K. release of Unknown Colours, which included two bonus tracks, that summer. ~ Heather Phares
