About Steve Azar

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest inspiration comes from Eugene Powell behind my dad's liquor store. My memories at the Jigger and Jug would lead to my Down at the Liquor Store record with former bandmates of B.B. King, Elvis Presley, and Little Milton decades later. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Albert King, I Wanna Get Funky (Remastered) Remastered Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run Willie Nelson, Stardust To me, these three albums epitomize honesty in an artist. I feel like I understand them beyond their music. These albums are also the first that turned me onto each artist. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Waitin' on Joe” Waitin' on Joe was the first successful record of mine that I was able to lyrically articulate where I grew up and convey the impact the Mississippi River and the Mississippi Delta had on me. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Following Mississippi getting a new state flag in 2022, my song "One Mississippi, which was produced in 2020, became the new official state song of Mississippi.
