About Susan Hedges

b. 3 May 1985, Liverpool, Merseyside, England. Hedges, who was born blind, started singing when she was six and became a regular guest performer in Merseyside country music clubs. She has been performing her own songs from the age of 10 and found a songwriting partner in the lyricist, Paula Stafford. They wrote most of the songs on her well-received 1999 debut, Myron Angel, named after an American novelist who discovered Native American paintings and the subject of the opening song, ‘The Ballad Of Carrizo Plain’. The album was produced by Gary Hall, who sings with her on ‘Footprints In The Dust’. The plaintive song, ‘When She Cries’, is about a mother raising her child and contains the line, ‘Sometimes I just thank God that she don’t look a lot like you.’ The American singer-songwriter, Tom Russell, says in his sleeve note, ‘Here is a very young, sightless English girl who sings with a mature soulfulness. We’ve sung together many times... she has a great future.’
