About The Receiver

Ohio-based indie duo the Receiver offer a richly detailed sound that melds atmospheric dream pop with prog rock sensibilities and structures. Brothers Casey (vocals, keyboards, bass) and Jesse Cooper (drums, vocals) formed the band in 2005, basing much of their early work on ideas composed by Casey for his senior thesis in music composition at Columbus' Ohio State University. The resulting album, Decades, was released in 2006 via New York indie Stunning Models on Display. The influence of forward thinkers like Radiohead, Air, and Pink Floyd could be heard in their detailed synth-led tracks which, in spite of their complexities, still owed as much to pop as to prog. Following an extensive tour and lengthy writing process, they followed up in 2009 with Length of Arms on Ohio indie Vital Music. They continued to tour the U.S., sharing bills with acts like St. Vincent, Beirut, and Midlake. In 2015, the Receiver caught the attention of U.K. label Kscope, which released their third album, All Burn, later that summer. ~ Timothy Monger
