About The Sugarcubes

Icelandic alt-pop band the Sugarcubes will perhaps best be remembered as the launching pad for internationally lauded, multi-faceted singer Bjork. However, the band's unique blend of jangly rock, dance music, and agit-prop--spread out over three studio albums--is memorable in its own right. Musically, the band is marked by the bizarre B-52s-esque interplay of Bjork's jazzy, gymnastic vocals and the demented shouts of singer/trumpeter Einar Orn Benediktsson. The Sugarcubes broke-up in 1992 leaving behind a fun, infectious, and often confounding legacy.
