About Tina Guo

A versatile cellist of international acclaim, Tina Guo's career has touched on classical, film and video game music, rock crossover, and electronic. Born in Shanghai and raised in the U.S. since the age of five, Guo's cello instruction began under her father, Lu-Yan Guo, before training with influential cellists Eleonore Schoenfeld and Nathaniel Rosen at University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. In the classical realm, she has appeared as a soloist with many prominent symphonies around the world including the State of Mexico National Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Brazil's Petrobras Symphony, and Greece's Thessaloniki State Symphony. Meanwhile, her diverse roster of collaborations includes appearances with jazz guitarist Al Di Meola, the Smiths' Johnny Marr, and the Foo Fighters. A great deal of Guo's exposure has come through her many appearances on major Hollywood film scores, commercials, and game soundtracks. As both a soloist and performer she can be heard on the soundtracks to Iron Man 2, Sherlock Holmes, Batman vs. Superman, Inception, X-Men: First Class, and on commercials for United Airlines, Apple's iPhone, and Mazda. Her theatrical style and devotion to soundtracks and game music have led to widespread fandom in the gaming community, with appearances at Comic Con, Blizzcon, and a sold-out performance at the League of Legends World Championship at L.A.'s Staples Center that was streamed online to 33 million viewers. Between 2011 and 2013, Guo was the soloist on Cirque du Soleil's high-profile Michael Jackson "The Immortal" World Tour. Beginning with 2014's new age/classical crossover album Autumn Winds, Guo has recorded a variety of solo albums from straight classical releases to 2015's edgy Cello Metal and 2017's Game On!, a collection of video game themes arranged for orchestra and rock band. Guo is also frequently seen playing electric cello and the erhu, a traditional Chinese bowed instrument. ~ Timothy Monger
