About Tony Oxley

During the mid 1960s free jazz drummer Tony Oxley worked with Derek Bailey and Gavin Bryars in developing a uniquely English version of abstract free improv. In 1966, he joined the house band at Ronnie Scott’s club, and was also in Scott’s octet, the Band. In 1970, Oxley co-founded Incus Records with Evan Parker and Bailey, and was a founding member of the London Musicians’ Co-operative. He formed his own band, Angular Apron, during the mid' 70s, and since the late 1980s, has regularly accompanied Cecil Taylor, playing in the pianist’s Feel Trio and recording 1998’s LEAF PALM HAND.
