Victoria Acosta

About Victoria Acosta

Her national breakout single was 100 percent pop, but deep in the heart of Texas, Victoria Acosta will always be remembered as a mariachi princess. The San Antonio native was only six when she enrolled in a mariachi music school. While she loved the music she was learning to sing, she also loved the teen pop she heard on Radio Disney and could sing back every song they played from memory. She was eight years old when she won the title of Best Mariachi Music Vocalist in the United States at the Ford and Lincoln Mercury Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza 2000. Studying voice with Latin Grammy nominee Manuel Vargas strengthened her singing, while signing to the Covert Entertainment promotion firm gave her an introduction to the professional pop world. In 2004, Acosta began recording the high-energy pop and R&B-flavored songs that were to become her debut album, Once Upon a Time. One of the tracks, "The World's Gone Crazy," became an instant favorite on Acosta's beloved Radio Disney in early 2005. Only 12 years old when it hit, Acosta was a teen pop star before she was even a teen. ~ David Jeffries
