About Westkust

Westkust hail from Gothenburg, Sweden and make dreamy, soaring indie pop similar to Makthaverskan, whom they share members with. The group's wall-of-sound guitars suggest shoegaze, but their driving, surf-inspired rhythms and knack for classic pop melodies and yearning, heart-struck lyrics are reminiscent of the best twee/indie pop. Westkust informally began in 2010, but crystallized the following year when Julia Bjernelind (vocals), Philip Söderlind (drums), and Rikard Hjort (guitar/bass) were joined by Makthaverskan's Gustav Andersson (guitar/vocals) and Hugo Randulv (bass/guitar). The band signed to Makthaverskan's home label Luxury and released debut 12" EP Junk in 2012, followed by the "Summer 3D" 7" single the following year. Westkust's full-length debut Last Forever arrived in 2015, and was released in the United States by Run for Cover. In June of 2015, Westkust announced Rikard Hjort's departure from the group. ~ Paul Simpson
