Max Tegmark leads us on an astonishing journey through past, present and future, and through the physics, astronomy, and mathematics that are the foundation of his work, most particularly his hypothesis that our physical reality is a mathematical structure and his theory of the ultimate multiverse. In a dazzling combination of both popular and groundbreaking science, he not only helps us grasp his often mind-boggling theories, but he also shares with us some of the often surprising triumphs and disappointments that have shaped his life as a scientist. Fascinating from first to last - this is a book that has already prompted the attention and admiration of some of the most prominent scientists and mathematicians.
Read this book, don’t listen to it
I purchased the print version of this book……fortunately. There are many graphs and illustrations essential to the understanding of Tegmark’s hypotheses which could not possibly be conveyed on an audiobook. The book itself is not light reading but nevertheless a fascinating viewpoint of cosmology. Very little math and lots of theory and philosophy. Recommended for people with interest in science and cosmology.
I’d say the opposite: listen to this book & then read it
I listened to this book and then, having been thoroughly riveted to its content and wishing to reference the actual book, I bought the book. I’m now on my second “listen” and I’ve got the hard copy to look up further information. Max Tegmark has written an incredible book which is impossible to “label.” Yes, it is about math. Yes, it is about physics, and cosmology, and the process of becoming a physicist…and about a whole bunch of other things. I’d also add philosophy and that’s just for starters. I would highly, highly recommend this book. If you love Brian Greene, you will love Tegmark. If you loved Carl Sagan, you will love Tegmark. If you love to have your paradigm “shifted,” you will love this book. In every parallel universe!
