Awful, horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad narration...

Really wonderful how the narrator was able to give each character a distinctive voice. Regardless of age, social status or character, he was able to imbue each character with the distinctive cackle of an 89-100-year-old native of Yorkshire. Really made the characters come alive...from the grave. Maybe I'm being too harsh - I mean, who's to say that an 8-year-old princess wouldn't sound like a 45-year-old, 3-pack-a-day Geordie housewife?

$45 dollars I shan't get back.

Edited - Narration wasnt that good

The narrator made every charater sound like they were an old crone, and sometimes it was hard to distinguish between which characters were actually talking because he didnt really do much to differentiate each character's voice. His voice and accent started to get irritating after awhile but that only became a factor after I noticed all the pauses. It seemed like, he was adding commas, and pauses within sentences, that didnt necessarily, require pauses, or have commas, in the first place. Just like that.

Worth it!

Great audiobook. I've been an audio junkie for a few years now and I have listened to some really poor narration. This narrator is a great fit for this series. He does slip into what I call a "pirate voice" more than a few times, but it didn't bother me enough to turn it off. I had no problems with the download on my iPod classic. The chapters are indeed sequential, and while the price is steep compared to an actual book, you pay roughly $25.00 for an audiobook that's about 10-15 hours long, so in the larger scheme of things, it's really not that bad if you're into audiobooks.

The story in this installment is fantastic, shocking, violent (there's a huge battle), and really sad at times. Martin loves killing off people we end up liking and then I'm also really surprised by the actions of his other characters. You never know their true personalities. A character you think is "good" ends up being horrible and the other way around. Interesting and at times infuriating. But it's a fantastic story. I liked this book better than the first in the series.
