She has tempted many men...but never found her equal. Until now. Though she has lived for centuries, Anya, goddess of anarchy, has never known pleasure. Until Lucien, the incarnation of death - a warrior eternally doomed to take souls to the hereafter. He draws her like no other. And Anya will risk anything to have him. But when the merciless Lord of the Underworld is ordered by the gods to claim Anya herself, their uncontrollable attraction becomes an anguished pursuit. Now they must defeat the unconquerable forces that control them, before their thirst for one another demands a sacrifice of love beyond imagining....
got hooked on the first Lords of the Underworld story by Gena Showalter. I adore Lucien and his story. He seems like such a scared (physically and emotionally), character with his past and internal turmoil, but Anya brings out Lucien and their story is addictive. I couldn't get enough and after reading the book I bought this audio book. Fast paced, and details come at you left and right. But truly fascinating to the last second!!! The narrator captures the essence of the characters and made me care about them so much that I am counting the days until Lords of the Underworld 3 comes in July with Reyes' Story.
Part 1 was as boring as heck.
I GET IT! Death thought that he was too ugly to gain the fair maiden's love. That he had spent all of part 1 trying to rebuff the fair Anya's overtures and push her away only to have her coming back to him for even more rejection. WHAT THE HELL! Where was Anya's pride? Part 2 was much better. Anya found a backbone and Death found a little self worth and this book finally found a decent story.
My favorite Lord of the Underworld book out of the three I read so far
Lucien was a character that I fell in love with instantly. He had no idea how attractive he was despite his scars, tragic past, leadership and sense of responsiblity to make the best immortal life for his men. It funny how people can fail to see how they deserve love and he was one of those characters. He needed someone like Anya to so him that life can be joyous. Anya has a wild streak that has never really been tested fully or released until she is meets Lucien. They both had within themselves what the other needs out of life and that is what makes this story beautiful. The sexual dance they played with one another was highly erotic. Even though Lucien was assign to kill Anya. Just goes to show that falling in love is good for your soul and your life. The supporting characters are memorable particularly Paris who won't get his story told anytime soon unfortunately. But the book and audio is well worth the time to get and enjoy.
